Microsoft Genuine Advantage Tool

July 12, 2009 in Microsoft by admin

While the Genuine Advantage tool is nobile in design it is a complete time waster. I don’t need to click seven links and buttons and install an active-x control into my “new” windows installation just to “guarantee” microsoft that my copy of windows is genuine. OF COURSE IT IS GENUINE!  This is Microsoft’s problem, not mine.  I would like to be paid for 10 minutes of wasted time for each time I have ever had to download and install this abomination.

Piracy isn’t my problem. Everything I buy is purchased through legal channels. Get off my back!

Our Mission Statement

Our missionat StopWastingMyTime.org is the gathering and listing of companies, software, tv commercials, news agencies and websites that unfairly inject themselves into our daily lives causing us to fall behind in our schedules and family duties.

This gut-wrenching recession is forcing all of us to re-evaluate how we live our lives. Over the past 10 years the internet has increasingly created mechanisms to extract our personal information, block fair access, and re-direct us from our appointed tasks.

Sending Invoices, Statements and Complaints

This site is particularly focused on gathering the addresses of these offenders so we can send invoices to their accounting departments for wasting our time. Additionally, we are encouraging the filing of complaints with appropriate government agencies.

We are looking for individuals that will serve as moderators to fairly assess these complaints and prescribe remedies to those effected.

Top 10 Examples of Time Wasting Abuses Perpetrated on the Unsuspecting Public

  1. Search results with unrelated content – popup ads,  banner ads, etc.
  2. Unnecessary updates to our computers- programs installed on our computers to detect our web surfing habits. Commonly installed in the “tray” area near the clock.  These programs VIOLATE our privacy and “Waste My Time!”.
  3. Unnecessary “pop-up” warnings on our computers – Windows User Access Control is a perfect example. -StopWastingMyTime
  4. TV infomercials that we are forced to “click through”.  -StopWastingMyTime
  5. Radio programs are particularly offensive. They pretend to be providing “information” but quickly side-step us into ridiculous diatribes of “fact gatherings”, sound bites and fear mongering. -StopWastingMyTime
  6. Microsites and Tunnel Sites – websites devoted to false claims of specialized knowledge related to our search or query. These are some of the most egregious. -StopWastingMyTime
  7. Buttons and Links that trick us into downloading something completely unrelated to what we think we are looking for. While these are spyware or viruses they waste our time and force us to uninstall them or forever deal with their nag screens, popups and emails.
  8. Trial Versions of Software – Another insidious contributions of the wall street puppetmasters. A good example of a company who has a handle on this is Ally Bank (formerly GMAC). We are enticed into a trial version of a product and provided with the bare essentials of the program and once the trial expires we are forced to endure the nag screens and many times we are not allowed to completely remove the program, registry entries or files that were placed on our PC in the first place. A prime example of the this are found in Adobe software, iTunes and CA (Norton).  These are so inflamatory that Norton and Adobe actually have programs you must download to “clean” these versions off of your screen. Prepare yourself for at least $250-$1000 or more worth of your time being wasted, not accounting for loss of productivity, frustration and interuption of your work flow with either of these companies.
  9. Spam – particularly fear-based spam emails. I won’t even begin to illiterate.
  10. Virus protection programs – this category is very interesting and completely based on fear tactics. I welcome fervent discussion of these programs and their genuine contribution to “blocking” anything that is a genuine threat.

Please help get this site started and we welcome your contributions!
